Kansas City BBQ Sauce from Meathead Yum

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp coarse salt
  • 2 cups Ketchup
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup yellow ballpark-style mustard
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup steak sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tbsp Tamarind paste
  • 1 tsp hot sauce
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced

Directions

  1. In small bowl , mix chili powder, salt, and pepper
  2. In a large bowl, mix ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, vinegar, Worcestershire, lemon juice, steak sauce, molasses, honey, and hot sauce
  3. In a large saucepan saute onions over medium heat until translucent (5 minutes)
  4. Lower temperature and add garlic for 1 minute
  5. Add chili powder mixture and stir cooking for 2 minutes
  6. Add ketchup mixture and stir. Simmering for 15 minutes to thicken
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning it should taste a little vinegary
